And my ongoing story:


Sandy chose the left side, so Danny slid in on the right, checking over his shoulder toward the bar while surreptitiously dropping his small bag to the floor, tucking it further into the corner with his feet. He looked back and smiled at Sandy, who was staring at him.

She said, “Do they wait tables?”

Danny tilted his head. “No,” he grinned. “What would you like?”

“Surprise me.”

“I’ll try.”

He slid out of the booth and zeroed in on the bar, glancing toward the back room, as if searching for someone who wasn’t there. He refocused on the barman.
