TMST – a novel approach

Some of you may be aware of my behemoth of a novel, TELL ME SOMETHING TRUE.

tmst 900

At over 275,000 words, it is a little heavy on the hands, not to say the pocket, as CreateSpace & Amazon retail it at around £15/$19.

Now, despite it being a long tale, I believe it is an interesting one, and well worth the time and effort required. But, of course, I probably would say this, right? 😉

So, I have come up with an idea…

I will remove the current full edition that is available on Kindle or as a Paperback, and re-publish the novel in four parts.

The book is already split into four cliff-hanger-y sections, based around the four seasons in a year (yes, Summer, Autumn, Winter & Spring), and it is my idea to re-publish one in each quarter of the coming year on the first day of each of those seasons (June 1st, September 1st, December 1st, March 1st), thus building into a 4-book series spread over a year.

While a 720 page book can feel a little scary to pick up, four 180 page books should feel quite tasty by comparison.

Also, it gives me a chance to re-edit as I go.

Oh, and I intend to make the first part available as a FREE eBook, throughout the year. And the subsequent three parts should all retail for less than £5 or $7. Well, that is the hope; and having had a quick run through the numbers, I believe this is doable.

Any thoughts/suggestions/comments? All appreciated. 🙂

zombie-vampire fiction

Yes, regarding my story.

Well, I have written 6105 words today, and expect another 2000 or so tomorrow, and then I think this short story –or chapter, as in many ways it feels like it could become a book– will be done, and I will decide what to do with it.

Edit first, probably, unless I decide it is a novel and simply push on. But, I think, if it does become a novel, it will have 6-8 specific chapters like this, being self-contained but also part of a whole. Interesting.

I struggled to find the voice to begin with, and fought between 1st and 3rd person for the first twenty minutes or so, writing something in 1st then trying it in 3rd, hoping for inspiration regarding which felt better, stronger. And 1st won out. But we shall see.

The main character, Denny, is a dead man. And he just met Liz, a vampire. Well, she certainly looks like one.

I’m not yet sure re a title, as I’m torn between something grammatically incorrect (it will make sense when you read it), or something where a potential reader won’t see it and think, “He can’t even get YOUR correct!” Current possibles are:

  1. Your Killing Me With Words
  2. You’re Grammar Kills Me
  3. Real Live Dead Man
  4. Your A Dead Man

Any thoughts?

exciting times

Okay, back to writing-based posts… 😉

But this is exciting. To me, at least. For the moment. Although hopefully it might become at least a little exciting to you in the days and weeks to come…

I was e-chatting with a dear friend earlier, joking about this and that, and do believe I chanced upon an idea for a character who could run and run. Almost literally.

And it would include maybe a little bit of smut, being something I was told this week pulls in the readers more than my usual fiction. And will heavily feature a Zombie, being something else I was told pulls in the readers etc. Well, that and a vampire. And I’m trying to squeeze one in… 😉 So…

  • smut? check
  • undead? check
  • vampire? check-ish

I could be good to go. 🙂

I’ll let things ferment… foment…? overnight, and hopefully sit down and write a first draft tomorrow. So long as it remains a short story. 😉 Knowing me it might not. But some new fiction. From me? Huzzah. Looks like I might be taking a break this weekend, after all.

Then I’ll need to decide whether to offer this one (and others in the potential series) for free, in the hope readers of these (hopefully) ‘popular’ stories might like them enough to stop by and try something else I’ve written? Here’s hoping.

3words August – day 3 of ??

Very happy to see viktoryarch playing along… Here’s hoping you stick with it, my friend. 🙂

Today’s 3words are: WIDE – OPPOSITE – CRAWL.

And my ongoing story:

I stopped opposite Lucy and waited. Her tiny right hand crawled up her dress and toyed with the bow at her neck, twisting it while she looked everywhere but at me. Then her left hand reached up and patted the bow in her black bob, and pushed her hair behind that left ear.

“Lucy? Have you something you want to tell me?”

She shook her head. “I didn’t see it happen.”

“Didn’t see what?”

She glanced at the other girls, all of whom were now watching her, wide-eyed.

She said, “I don’t know. But whatever it was, I didn’t see.”
